Curriculum Vitae - Dr Clifford Harley

My Father was a GP, and his Father was a Surgeon in the Indian Medical Service. My Uncle was a Thoracic Surgeon, my Brother is a Professor of Chemical Pathology at the University of Cape Town, and my Son is a GP in Ipswich.

I was educated at Epsom College from where I won a State Scholarship to Guy’s Hospital, and I qualified MB BS in 1959.

From 1959 to 1960 I was House Surgeon and then House Physician at The Miners’ Hospital, Caerphilly. In 1960 I became House Surgeon in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Farnborough Hospital, Kent, from where I qualified D.Obst.RCOG in 1961.

From 1961 to 1974 I was a GP Obstetrician in practice with my Father in Purley. During these years I developed my interest in Orthopaedic Medicine studying Osteopathy as Dr. Alan Stoddard’s Registrar at the Brook Hospital, Woolwich, and doing research on the Epidural Space as Clinical Assistant to Dr. Pat Kendall at Guy’s from where I qualified D.Phys.Med in 1969.

In 1974 my Father retired and I became a full time Private Orthopaedic Physician, now practicing in my own Clinic at 62 Stockwell Park Road, London, SW9 0DA and at the Hale Clinic, 7 Park Crescent, London W1B1PF (which is very close to Great Portland Street tube station).

I treat painful and disabling disorders of the musculo-skeletal system with a combination of Epidural, Paravertebral, Intra-articular and Ligamentous Injections; Dry Needling, Interferential, Power Assisted Micro-Manipulation, Osteopathic Manipulation, and Neural Stretching using AMT Technique. I was an early member of the British Association of Manipulative Medicine, and was Programme Secretary for the first Congress of the International Federation of Manual Medicine.

I have been a member of the Council of the British Institute of Musculo-Skeletal Medicine, and lecture at the London School of Osteopathy. I am a Scientific Member of the Osteoporosis Society. I belong to the South-West London Medical Society and am a Fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine.

I thoroughly enjoy my work, and have no plans to retire!
